The 6 Best Maternity Leggings of 2026

Most maternity leggings have the same problem: the belly panel rolls down by week 30, the fabric goes see-through the second you squat, or they pill after three washes. If you've been pregnant for more than five minutes you already know this.

I went through the maternity leggings from the major retailers — fabric specs, panel types, sizing, plus a lot of forum threads and reviews from people who actually wore these through their pregnancies. These six are the ones that kept coming up: good belly panels, opaque fabric, and not falling apart after a few washes. They range from about $20 to $69.

Best overall maternity legging

Quince — Ultra-Form Maternity Legging

This is the one that keeps coming up everywhere. The Quince Ultra-Form has four-way stretch, moisture-wicking fabric with anti-microbial treatment, and an over-belly panel that actually stays put through the third trimester — which sounds like a low bar until you've experienced the alternative. At $40 it's about half what you'd pay for Lululemon Aligns, and unlike Aligns, it's actually designed for pregnancy. No pockets, which is annoying, and only three colors. But if I had to pick one legging off this list it'd be this one.

  • Over-belly panel that doesn't roll
  • Moisture-wicking with anti-microbial treatment
  • About $40
  • No pockets
  • Only 3 colors

Best maternity legging at Old Navy

Old Navy — Maternity Full Panel StudioSmooth 7/8 Leggings

Old Navy's StudioSmooth fabric genuinely feels premium — it's been getting Lululemon comparisons and honestly it's not far off. Full belly panel, opaque even in a deep squat, and eight colors which is more than any other pick here. $45 at full price but Old Navy runs sales constantly so you'll probably catch it for less. I almost put this at #1 but the Quince panel is better.

  • 8 colors, most on this list
  • StudioSmooth fabric feels premium
  • Full belly panel
  • 7/8 length, not great if you're tall
  • Old Navy sizing is inconsistent

Best premium maternity legging

Cadenshae Australia — Maternity Leggings with Pockets - Classic Full Length Black

Cadenshae is a New Zealand brand that only makes pregnancy and postpartum activewear — their leggings are endorsed by physiotherapists, which is not something I thought I'd care about until I learned how much pregnancy messes with your pelvic floor. Deep pockets that fit a phone, thick opaque fabric, and the belly panel folds down for postpartum. $69 and ships from NZ so it takes a while, but people wear these through multiple pregnancies.

  • Endorsed by physiotherapists
  • Thick, opaque fabric
  • Deep pockets + converts for postpartum
  • $69
  • Ships from New Zealand

Best maternity legging for stocking up

H&M — MAMA 2-pack Jersey Leggings

You need more than one pair of maternity leggings. You just do. The H&M MAMA 2-pack is two for $40. Soft jersey, comfortable over-bump waistband, and people swear by them. They're slightly see-through when you bend though, so wear a longer top.

  • Two pairs for $40
  • Soft jersey people wear months postpartum
  • Best per-legging price on this list
  • Slightly see-through when bending
  • H&M quality varies

Best maternity legging for workouts

4505 — Maternity seamless rib knit high waist gym leggings in black

Gym legging. Seamless so nothing chafes during squats, supportive ribbed knit, high waist that accommodates growth. $35. Only comes in black and it's not for lounging, but if you're still working out while pregnant (respect) this is the one.

  • Seamless, no chafing
  • Ribbed knit compression without the squeeze
  • $35 for workout-grade maternity leggings
  • Black only
  • Gym-specific, not for lounging

What to actually look for

Over-belly vs. under-belly panel: just get over-belly. Under-belly panels are fine in the first trimester but they will slide down your bump by month 7 and you'll be yanking them up every 10 minutes. Over-belly panels extend up and over, and the good ones (Quince, Old Navy, Cadenshae) stay put all day. This is the single most important feature.

The see-through thing matters more than you think. You're going to be bending over, squatting down, and generally stretching fabric to its limits. The H&M MAMA pack is slightly sheer when bent — fine with a long top, dealbreaker without one. Cadenshae and the ASOS 4505 are consistently opaque. When in doubt, go darker colors.

Buy at least two pairs. You'll be washing them constantly, and having a rotation means you're not doing emergency laundry at 11pm (ask me how I know). The H&M 2-pack exists for exactly this reason. Most brands recommend ordering your pre-pregnancy size, but if you're between sizes, go up — nothing is worse than a too-tight waistband on a bump.

The bottom line

If you buy one pair, make it the Quince Ultra-Form at $40. It does everything well and costs half what the trendy brands charge. For stocking up, the Old Navy StudioSmooth plus the H&M 2-pack gives you a solid rotation without spending a fortune. The Cadenshae and ASOS 4505 are there if you need workout-specific.

Don't overthink this. Buy in your second trimester while you still have the energy to care about leggings. Get over-belly panels. Get at least two pairs. And if your budget is tight, the Isabel Maternity from Target is genuinely good — not "good for the price," just good.
